Potato Pig Painting

Who can say "Potato Pig Painting" three times really fast?  Certain to have some fun times being creative, using art and imagination to make pigs.

Items required:

3 potatoes -

1 very, very small round potato, 1 small round potato,  and 1 oval potatoe - fresh from the store or garden

knife - for adult to use only

thick tempera paints

art paper

pointed paint brush or tooth pick

The adult will need to cut the small potatoes in half for a circle and the oval potatoes cut length-wise for an oval shape.

Next comes the art.

Choose your favorite color paint - pink, white, black, brown, and rusty red are all favorite colors of pigs.

Using the oval potato, gently dip the flat side into the paint.  Less is best.  Apply the oval painted potato to the center of the art paper.  Press firmly, then remove.   This is the body of the pig.

Using the small potatoes, repeat this process.  The bigger one is the pig's head and the smaller one will be the 4 feet.

What does a pig need next?  A snout.  The snout is a pig's nose.  Using only a portion of the smaller painted potato, add a snout onto the head.

Choose a different color of paint -  white, black, tan, brown, rusty red.  Using the paintbrush or a toothpick add some more features to your pig - two pointy ears on the head, 2 eyes, and a mouth.   Pigs can be decorated with spots of a different color or left a solid color.

The last thing a pig needs is a curly tail.  Using the paintbrush or the toothpick and your choice of paint color, make a curly tail on your pig.

There you have it - Potato Pig Painting!
